Life Studio: Transforming an Aged House into a Multi-Functional Space

Renovating an Aged House with Innovative Design

The Life Studio, designed by Chih-Yi Yu, is a remarkable renovation project that breathes new life into a nearly four-decade-old house. With a focus on combining life and interests, this design creates a harmonious blend of spaces that cater to the needs of its inhabitants.

The inspiration behind the Life Studio lies in the integration and transformation of united spaces. By carefully considering the contours and materials, Chih-Yi Yu has created a metaphorical representation of the concept of the design. The selection of materials reflects the textures and generates a multi-layered, pure texture for the interior spaces, resulting in a visually stunning and detail-oriented design.

What sets the Life Studio apart is its unique approach to renovating the interior space of an aged house. The lower floor is dedicated to the living space, while the upper floor houses a yoga studio and a study room. The renovation aims to balance the proportion between lines and planes, creating a real living attitude and maintaining the correspondence of interaction.

The realization of the Life Studio design is achieved through the use of open-style spaces that allow light and shade to permeate from all directions. This creates alternated bright and dark contours, simplifying the spatial contours and enhancing the overall aesthetics. The interior decoration utilizes overlapping, cold tones, and solid materials to create a peaceful and warm ambiance.

With an interior area of approximately 155 square feet, the Life Studio is a testament to the possibilities of renovating an old building. Despite the common problems associated with aged houses, such as water leakage, water damage, and termite damage, Chih-Yi Yu has successfully transformed the space into an open-style concept that seamlessly combines the living and dining rooms.

The interaction within the Life Studio revolves around the renovation and planning of the entire house. By integrating the owner's private life, work, and interests, the design creates a cohesive and artistic expression. The use of earth tone colors, deconstructed layouts, and overlapping styles adds depth and character to the space, while maintaining a natural living concept.

The Life Studio project was completed in June 2019 and is located in Taipei City, Taiwan. Throughout the planning process, extensive research was conducted to overcome challenges such as limited space and existing structural issues. The selection of materials and construction techniques played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the project.

The Life Studio design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award is a testament to the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of the Life Studio, which meets professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.

With its unique blend of functionality, aesthetics, and innovation, the Life Studio stands as a testament to the transformative power of design. Chih-Yi Yu's vision and attention to detail have created a space that not only breathes new life into an aged house but also inspires and delights its inhabitants.
